Atmospheric Oil Paintings

My paintings explore a space—that point, or gap—where the physical world meets the ethereal. Working from the coastal landscapes of Maine and New England, I begin with familiar places—marshes, fields, water, sky—but gradually allow atmosphere and intuition to reshape them. I approach painting almost as sculpture, building up layers of paint, then carving, scraping, and removing them. It becomes a kind of excavation. Sometimes I have the strange sensation that something was there before I began, and that I am simply uncovering it.

I am most interested in moments where boundaries blur—where a horizon is uncertain, or a shape cannot be defined. I want the viewer to enter the space with me, bringing their own questions, memories, and meaning. There is something about the uncertainty of these places that both fascinates and unsettles me.

As an artist and a spiritual seeker, I sense that there is something more to the world than what meets the eye. My paintings allow me to explore that mystery, to listen for what is under the surface, and occasionally catch a glimpse of it.
